Problems in metal desulfurization in process of its
direct alloying with manganese by means of manganese sinter and
aluminium adding to ladle during metal tapping from steelmaking
unit have been considered. According to calculation and
experimental data, desulfurization degree is 30-35% at Mn
content of 0.5% and reaches 60% at Mn content more than 1%.

- Improvement in service life of moulds for casting the copper and its alloys Smirnov, A.N.; Spiridonov, D.V. , 11
Peculiarities in operation of moulds for casting the
copper and its alloys at semi-continuous casters during slab
production have been considered. It has been shown that in order
to improve service life of the mould plates, it is necessary to
make internal cavity with certain taper taking into account the
slab shrinkage during its movement in the mould. Intensity and
uniformity of heat transfer should be improved in this case. The
mould test has shown that its service life is increased by
factor of 4.0-4.5.

- Thermodynamics of melts based on titanium. Part 3. Nitrogen, sulfur and phosphorus in liquid titanium Belyanchikov, L.N. , 16
On basis of quasiregular solution theory, method of
recalculating the thermodynamic parameters has been used for
determining the characteristics of titanium alloys using data on
iron alloys. Variation of Gibbs free energy during dissolution
of sulfur, nitrogen and phosphorus in liquid titanium as well as
during reactions of nitrides, sulfides and phosphides formation
in liquid titanium and their decomposition has been determined.
It has been shown that nitrides of all elements are thermodynamically
instable in liquid titanium. Formation of sulfides of Ba, Ca, Sr in
liquid titanium is possible.

Influence of steel microalloying with boron on its
properties has been investigated. Complex silicon-manganese-
boron-containing FSMB ferroalloy has been used in this case.
Structure and mechanical properties of the steel alloyed with
this ferroalloy are similar to those of steel alloyed with
ferroboron. Some characteristics of the steel are higher.
